Data from Maternal and Child Health (MCH) services play a crucial role in supporting the continuity of services, documentation, reporting, and fulfilling health information needs. Inadequate management of data retention periods can hinder the discovery and accessibility of data. This study aims to determine the effect of midwives' compliance with the data retention period of MCH services on the accessibility of data from Independent Midwife Practices (IMP). The research was conducted using a quantitative analytical approach with a cross-sectional design involving 62 midwives selected through non-probability sampling using accidental sampling methods. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed through univariate analysis and logistic regression with a significance level of 0.05. A total of 57 respondents (91.9%) demonstrated low compliance with the data retention period for MCH, while 53 respondents (85.5%) had low data accessibility. The results of the logistic regression analysis indicated a significant effect between compliance with the data retention period of MCH and data accessibility (p = 0.012; OR = 12.750; 95% CI = 1.762–92.261). Compliance with the data retention period of MCH significantly influences the accessibility of IMP data. Strengthening data retention management and data governance is necessary to improve the accessibility of MCH data. This study is limited to 62 respondents from eight IMPs using accidental sampling techniques, thus generalization of results should be done with caution.
